Temple Employee Referral Program (TERP)

Temple Employee Referral Program (TERP)

Our employees are our best brand ambassadors and can assist the university with identifying qualified candidates who may not be actively seeking employment but would consider the right opportunity if presented. Employee referrals also reduce the time to fill open positions, improve overall employee satisfaction and retention, reduce recruiting costs, and improve the quality of hires.

TERP is an incentive that departments can utilize as a tool to enhance recruitment efforts for regular full and part-time staff positions. Any regular full or part-time employees may refer someone for a job marked as eligible for the referral payment. The referral payment will be received after the referred employee has successfully completed 90 days of employment. Both the employee referred and the employee who referred them must be in good standing and actively employed at the completion of the 90-day employment period to receive the payment.

Highlights of the Program

  • Participation is voluntary. The department is responsible for determining which open position(s) will be eligible for a referral payment, working in collaboration with an HR Business Partner and Talent Acquisition Specialist.
  • The referral payment amount is $500 and is covered by the hiring department. (Referral payments are subject to all applicable taxes).
  • The referral payment will be received after the referred employee has successfully completed 90 days of employment. Both the employee referred and the employee who referred them must be in good standing and actively employed at the completion of the 90-day employment period to receive the payment.
  • No off-cycle payments or manual checks will be processed for TERP payments.

Eligible Participants

Eligible Departments

All schools, colleges, and administrative units can participate by identifying the position(s) for which they want to offer a referral payment. Referral payments may be offered for any open regular full and part-time staff position(s).

Eligible Employees

Any Regular full or part-time employee may refer an applicant for a job marked as eligible for the referral payment.

Employees NOT Eligible

Student-workers, non-credit instructors, adjunct instructors, temporary employees, graduate assistants, post-doctoral fellows, interns, and contracted employees are not eligible to participate. In addition, individuals directly involved in the hiring process or managers/supervisors with hiring authority over the referred candidates may refer applicants but will not be eligible for the referral payment for that job.

How to Refer an Applicant

The referral process is simple. The applicant must indicate you referred them on their online application prior to submission. No changes can be made to their application after submission. The applicant must answer the question on the application which reads: Were you referred by a current Temple University Employee? If so, please provide the full name and department of the employee who referred you.

How many employees can I refer?

There is no limit on the number of referrals an employee can make. We ask that employees keep in mind that the program is designed to incentivize employees to refer candidates they truly believe will be successful in serving and supporting Temple’s mission.

Identifying Eligible TERP Positions

Hiring departments interested in submitting eligible positions for TERP, may select “Yes” in the pull-down field marked TERP Eligible on your Taleo staff requisition.

Staff positions eligible for the Temple Employee Referral Program (TERP) payment will be easy to identify on Careers@temple in the staff positions portal, just look for an exclamation mark (!) next to a job posting.

Referral Payments

The referral payment will be received after the referred employee has successfully completed 90 days of employment. Both the employee referred and the employee who referred them must be in good standing and actively employed at the completion of the 90-day employment period to receive the payment.

The hiring school, college, or administrative department will be responsible for covering the cost of the referral payments.

Notification

Temple may change the employee referral program over time. Temple will select the best-qualified candidate regardless of referral status. All candidates will be evaluated for employment consistent with Temple University’s policy and procedures. All information regarding the hiring decision will remain strictly confidential.
